A judge found enough probable cause Thursday to try one of the four suspects involved in the death of Randolph County 16-year-old Kayla Huff.
Judge James Cooksey bound over 19-year-old Hunter Ames to circuit court Thursday morning after a preliminary hearing in Randolph County. Ames faces charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, property damage, tampering with evidence and burglary in the killing and disappearance of Huff in May.
Lt. Nathan West of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Defense Attorney John Marshall made statements at the hearing. West argued that Ames’ gun was used in the killing of Huff and that his baton was used to beat her. Marshall argued that there was no probable cause against Ames in his kidnapping charge and that he was a “bystander who got caught up”.
Cooksey set an arraignment for 9 a.m. Aug. 12.
Marshal reportedly said that he will file to change both the location and judge in the case.
