A woman who was found guilty of murder is due to be sentenced in Callaway County Court today.
Heather Smith was found guilty by jury in April 2026 of second degree murder, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon and a count of armed criminal action in the death of 37-year-old Kara Dills.
Court documents say Smith shot Dills after their children got into an altercation while riding bikes at their apartment complex in April 2025.
They say that the argument sparked multiple confrontations from both women involving guns, and Smith ultimately shot Dills in the stomach, killing her.
Smith is set to be sentenced at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Callaway County court.
