Truck Driver Charged After Utility Pole Crash

An Illinois truck driver is facing a felony charge after authorities say he crashed a semitruck into a utility pole in Jefferson City, causing a widespread power outage and an estimated $50,000 in damage.

Court documents accuse Philip B. Kahn of leaving the scene after the July 15 crash at West High and Bolivar streets.

Police say surveillance video and GPS data linked the truck to the scene, and Kahn later told investigators he knew he hit a curb but didn’t realize he struck the pole.

He has been charged but has not been arrested.
