Proposed Amendment 6 to Go to Missouri Supreme Court
The proposed Missouri Amendment 6 will go to the Missouri Supreme Court for a final ruling after a Cole County circuit judge deemed the proposal unconstitutional on Wednesday, due to it violating the single subject amendment rule.
The measure would gerrymander the congressional map for an extra Republican seat in the U.S. House and also prevent lawmakers from weakening citizen initiative and referendum powers.
The People Not Politicians Group appealed the decision to the Missouri Supreme Court today and Chief Justice Brent Powell on Thursday issued an order setting an expedited briefing schedule and setting oral arguments for the case on September 2.
