The Kansas City Royals lost 4-1 to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
The Royals struggled early as Red Sox pitcher Payton Tolle made history with a nine-pitch immaculate inning, striking out three batters. Boston took a 1-0 lead on Caleb Durbin’s solo homer, but Kansas City tied it in the seventh on Carter Jensen’s pinch-hit RBI single. The Red Sox quickly regained the lead with Roman Anthony’s go-ahead hit and added two insurance runs on Trevor Story’s single. Aroldis Chapman finished the game with a save as Boston held on for the win.
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-1 at Busch Stadium, securing a series victory.
The Cardinals were held hitless through five innings by White Sox rookie David Sandlin, who carried a perfect game into the sixth.
St. Louis finally broke through with a rally highlighted by Alec Burleson’s three-run double, giving them the lead.
Michael McGreevy delivered a strong six-inning start, and George Soriano escaped a ninth-inning jam to earn the save as the Cardinals secured the win.
