House Passes Elk Poaching Bill

The Missouri House has voted to raise fines for those who poach elk in the state.

The bill would allow judges to issue fines of up to $2500 for attempting to illegally hunt elk, and the money would be used to benefit school districts.

In 2011, the Missouri Department of Conservation began to reintroduce elk in Missouri after they were wiped out nearly 150 years ago.

Currently there are around 170 elk in the state. 34 were originally brought in from Kentucky.
