Vet Speaks Out On Pentobarbital In Dog Food

A veterinarian with the University of Missouri is responding to recent dog food recalls after traces of pentobarbital, a tranquilizer used to euthanize animals was found.

Tim Evans stresses that while no measurable concentrations of the drug should be in the dog food, pet owners should monitor resources for updates and notices for pet food recalls.

Evans said the FDA plays a key role in preventing these situations and in protecting pets when these situations arise.

Some varieties of dog food that have been infected include Gravy Train, Kibbles ‘N Bits, Skippy and Ol’Roy.
