Callaway Collector Resigns After Suspicious Activity Discovered On County Account

The Callaway County Collector, Pam J. Oestriech, submitted her resignation effective immediately this morning following a meeting with Presiding Commissioner, Gary Jungerman and Sheriff Clay Chism.

According to a release from the Callaway Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, officials from Central Bank met with the prosecuting attorney to discuss suspicious activity on a Callaway County Checking Account, managed by the county collector.

Following the meeting the Prosecuting Attorney contacted the sheriff to make him aware of the report, and immediately contacted the FBI.

Pursuant to Missouri Law, the County Clerk, Denise Hubbard, has taken charge of tax records from the collector’s office, and will appoint a representative to audit those records.

In the interim the Callaway County Commission has voted to temporarily close the Office of the County Collector effective today.
