U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill is praising the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital after a recent report showed a decrease in prescriptions for opioids.
Senator McCaskill is currently leading the largest congressional investigation to date into the opioid epidemic.
The Columbia hospital has decreased opioid prescriptions by 34 percent between 2012 and 2017.
McCaskill has asked for details on what the VA will do to “build on the initial success of the Opioid Safety Initiative and continue the decrease in opioid prescribing rates.”
McCaskill is working on a bill that would strengthen the DEA’s opioid enforcement abilities.
