Attempted Child Abduction In Columbia

A child is safe after an attempted abduction yesterday afternoon. [Tuesday]

Columbia Police responded for a call of a past suspicious vehicle in the area of Chapel Hill Road and Handley Place. Investigation revealed that at around 4:20 an 11 year old male was walking home from Fairview Elementary when he observed a vehicle pass by multiple times before coming to a stop near the intersection. As the juvenile approached the intersection of Chapel Hill and Handley, the driver opened the passenger door and told the child to get in. The juvenile ran from the vehicle and returned home safely.

The vehicle is described as a sandy gold or brown extended cab pick up with a camper shell and tinted windows.

The driver is a middle aged white male with a white moustache and beard last seen wearing a dark baseball cap and a dark shirt.

Citizens are reminded to encourage children to remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings when walking or biking home.
