Judge Hears Arguments On Whether Governor Mike Parson Can Appoint a Lt. Governor

A Cole County Circuit Judge has not ruled on whether Governor Mike Parson has the authority to appoint a new lieutenant governor.

Arguments were heard by Judge Jon Beetem yesterday (Thursday).

The Missouri Democratic Party is suing after Governor Mike Parson appointed former State Senator Mike Kehoe to Lt. Governor on June 18th after former Governor Eric Greitens resigned amid scandals.

The plaintiffs in the case say they want clarification of the law and would like to give Missourians a chance to elect a lieutenant governor.

While the Attorney General’s office argued Missouri’s constitution does give the governor the authority to fill vacancies in all public offices.
