State Board Of Education Discusses Teacher Retention

The Missouri State Board of Education heard a proposal from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to attract and retain teachers in the state.

The proposal would include a boost in the minimum teacher salary to $32 thousand annually and would give all teachers a $4 thousand raise.

The total cost would be around $322 million.

The current minimum salary for teachers in the state of Missouri is $25 thousand.

This plan is based on input gathered by DESE from a stakeholder group
