Shots Fired in Jefferson City Leads to Car Pursuit That Ends in Columbia

Shots fired in Jefferson City early this (Tuesday) morning leads to a car pursuit and an arrest.

According to the Cole County Sheriff’s Department they received reports of a shooting between two vehicles just after 3 this (Tuesday) morning in the area of Big Horn Drive.


Deputies say they found a vehicle matching a description on Business 50 and a pursuit ensued where the vehicle lost control then recovered and took officers north on Highway 1709 into Cooper County and ended on US 63 near Broadway Street in Columbia.

Deputies say they found a 9mm handgun and a 20 gauge shotgun after searching the vehicle.

The driver was identified as 18 year old Denver Newland and had a total of five active warrants.

A passenger in the car was taken to the hospital treated and released.
