A partial federal shut down began early this morning [Saturday] after lawmakers could not come to an agreement for President Donald Trump’s demands for $5 billion dollars to build the Mexican border wall.
Negotiations are expected to continue today in a rare Saturday session. House members were told they would get 24 hours notice before a vote.
The shut down will disrupt the routines of more than 800 thousand federal employees, with around 380 thousand being furloughed.
Some agencies, including the Pentagon and departments of Veterans Affairs and Health and Human Services will operate as usual.
Additionally, the FBI, Border Patrol and the Coast Guard will continue their work.
