Mexico Public Safety Warns Of Scam

Mexico Public Safety says they received information yesterday [Friday] about a fraud moving back through this part of the state.

A citizen reported getting a check in the mail for about $1,950. The check appeared to come from the business Handcrafted Wines out of Lenexa, Kansas.

The enclosed letter requested the citizen deposit the check, purchase a gift card for around $1,750 and send it back to the senders, keeping $200 for themselves.

The business in Kansas is aware of the issue, and the checks being mailed are forgeries.

Public Safety reminds residents there is no legitimate reason anyone not known to you would need you to cash or deposit a check for them and keep some of the money.
