A jury acquitted a man charged in a rape that occurred in 2002 this afternoon. [Wednesday]

Jackie Jennings of Columbia was charged with forcible rape and burglary in 2017 after DNA allegedly tied him to the case.

His trial began Tuesday at the Boone County Courthouse.

Jennings admitted to driving the victim home, but did not have sexual contact with her.

During closing arguments, the defense argued there was too much reasonable doubt for a conviction. Prosecutors alleged DNA evidence proved Jennings was guilty.
