Motion Denied For Man Convicted Of Murder Of Sports Editor

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today [Wednesday] the man who admitted to the murder of a Columbia Tribune Sports Editor will remain behind bars.

On Monday, a Pike County judge entered an order denying a writ of habeas corpus filed by Charles Erickson.

The court found on November 4, 2004 that Erickson freely, knowingly and intelligently entered a guilty plea to second degree murder, first degree robbery and armed criminal action.

At his plea hearing, Erickson admitted to participating in the murder of Kent Heitholt. He was found beaten with a blunt object and then strangled with his own belt.
