Special Olympics Forced To Cancel Summer Games

The Special Olympics of Missouri have made the decision to cancel the 2019 State Summer Games.

In a statement, President and CEO Susan Stegeman said “we are heartbroken that we have to cancel the State Summer Games. The athletes deserve better, but based on severe tornado damage to SOMO headquarters, the extreme flooding throughout the state and a grim 10-day forecast, we had to make this call.”

The games were scheduled for May 31 through June 2nd.

More than 100 volunteers were at the Jefferson City campus today [Friday] helping with clean-up in preparation for the repair of the facility.
