Local Author Dies Saturday

George Hodgman, the author of “Bettyville” was found dead in his New York apartment on Saturday at the age of 60.

Hodgman’s book focused on his experience caring for his mother in Paris, Missouri where he grew up.

Bettyville was published in 2015 detailing the loving, yet challenging relationship with his mother and the struggles of being gay in a small Missouri town.

Hodgman graduated from the University of Missouri with degrees in English and journalism in 1981, then he earned a master’s degree from Boston College.

Hodgman spent a lot of his time in Paris and would frequently post on social media about historic buildings.

The cause of his death is pending, and information on services is not available.
