Mexico City Council Sets Tax Rate

The Mexico City Council has voted to set the local tax rate for the 2020 fiscal year at their meeting Monday night.

The tax rate will be 43.10 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.

The increase is less a penny more than the 2019 rate.

The money accrued from the taxes is divided up into three categories: general fund which will receive $682,989, Parks and Recreation will receive $156,406 and Public Health will receive $312,971 for a total collection of an estimated $1,152,366.

Since 2012, there has only been a less than 2 cent tax increase within the city.

The council also decided on a cost sharing sidewalk project at 220 West Jackson.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be just over $23 thousand and will be shared with Robert and Helen Fenlon, the property owners.
