Battle High School To Disable Wi-Fi During School Day
Battle High School in Columbia sent a letter to parents informing them of the decision to turn off Wi-Fi to personal devices during school hours.
In the letter from Principal Kim Presko, the move is to provide an educational environment that is limited from distractions while also increasing cyber safety and security measures.
The technology will be disabled between 8:55AM and 4:05PM.
The service will be turned back on in the event of an emergency including lockdowns and students will have the ability to connect to the wi-fi for the purpose of communication with parents and guardians.
Presko advised parents to call the school if they need to contact their child throughout the day, and that school issued laptops with internet access was issued. Each student has an email account that can be used to communicate with the student.
