Mexico Board Of Education
The Mexico Board of Education discussed options for updating athletic fields at their meeting Tuesday night.
Superintendent Dr. Zach Templeton presented options to put turf on the baseball and football fields and make a change to the soccer field.
Dr. Templeton presented the option of going through a cooperative of vendors. Using this option would reduce cost by eliminating the step of selecting a contractor or architect to draw plans on which to collect bids.
The board overall expressed liking the idea but wants to hear from some of the vendors that are a part of the cooperative at their work session on October 1.
Dr. Templeton also discussed the possibility of starting a Grow Your Own program.
Templeton reports the district has approximately $37,000 from broken contracts that is currently not being used. He proposes using that money to help existing non-certified staff go back to school to become teachers.
In return, the teachers would then work for the district for an allotted amount of time in order to repay the district through their service.
