The St. Louis Cardinals are reporting their former manager, Whitey Herzog is recovering from a mild stroke suffered at his charity golf tournament on Monday.
The Cardinals made the announcement yesterday (Tuesday) that Herzog is resting comfortably and doing well after receiving treatment.
The 87 year old Herzog was chosen to baseball’s Hall of Fame in 2010, after managing 4 teams over 18 seasons.
He led the Cardinals to the National League pennant 3 times during the 1980’s and a victory against the Milwaukee Brewers in the 82 World Series.
The St. Louis Cardinals taken down 6-2 last (Tuesday) night by the Washington Nationals at Busch Stadium last (Tuesday) night.
St. Louis batters struck out 14 times and went 0-9 with runners in scoring position.
Despite the loss the Cardinals maintain a 2 game lead over the 2nd place Chicago Cubs in the National League Central.
The Redbirds magic number for the winning division is 10.
The Kansas City Royals edged out 2-1 by the Oakland A’s on the road.
The Royals scored their lone run in the 5th inning off a sac fly.
