The St. Cardinals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-7 on the road last (Monday) night.
Tommy Edman, Paul Goldschmidt, Yadier Molina, and Harrison Bader all went yard to cut the Redbirds’ magic number to clinch the National League Central to 3.
It was the Cardinals 6th consecutive win and they eliminated the Arizona from postseason contention.
The Kansas City Royals had the day off yesterday (Monday) however their manager Ned Yost announced his retirement.
The 65 year old Yost led the Royals to a 22-9 postseason record, and his 2014 Royals club was the first in Major League history to begin the postseason with 8 consecutive victories.
Kansas City has not named a replacement yet, however it is being widely reported that former St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny is a top candidate for the job.
NFL Monday Night Football saw the Chicago Bears defeat the Washington Redskins 31-15.
The Bears are now 2-1 while the Redskins fell to 0-3.
The NCAA’s enforcement staff is charging the University of Kansas with lack of institutional control and Jayhawks basketball coach Bill Self with head coach responsibility violations.
The university received five Level I violations, as well as 2 Level II violations related to the school’s football program under former coach David Beaty in an NCAA notice of allegations yesterday (Monday).
Kansas officials now have 90 days to respond to the charges. In a statement released, the school noted “it is already clear from an initial review that the University will fiercely dispute in detail much of what has been presented.”
