Missouri health officials are announcing the state’s first death as a result of COVID-19.
In a press conference with Governor Parson this (Wednesday) afternoon, Columbia Mayor Brian Treece announced that a patient who had tested positive yesterday (Tuesday) died earlier today (Wednesday).
The exposure was travel-related.
The family of the victim called 9-1-1 this (Wednesday) morning to report a medical emergency and told responders that the victim was a positive COVID-19 case.
First responders, wearing proper personal protective equipment responded and transported the victim to MU Health Care where they died.
The six first responders that responded to the call are now quarantined.
The age and gender of the victim were not released.
