A former St. Louis Cardinals first baseman is getting set for his graduation to become a doctor and start fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mark Hamilton will graduate tomorrow from the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in New York.
The now-online ceremony is being moved up a month in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 35 year old Hamilton is scheduled to begin his residency at Northwell’s Long Island Jewish Medical Center in June, unless he is needed earlier.
Hamilton played 38 games in 2011 with the Cardinals and received a World Series Ring by being a part of that team.
Kansas City Royals manager Mike Matheny says he optimistic about the prospect of playing baseball this season.
Matheny spoke to reporters online from his home in Lee’s Summit on Tuesday, and admitted he was excited about recent reports that baseball has come up with creative plans to potentially get teams back onto the field sooner than expected.
Matheny went on to say that any discussion of resuming play, potential roster sizes or what the season might look like is just speculation for now.
