History Made At Mexico City Council Meeting With Women Elected To Serve As Mayor And Mayor Pro Tem

History made at the Mexico City Council meeting tonight as 2 women have been elected to serve as Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem.

The Mexico City Council certified election results from last Tuesday’s, June 2nd General Municipal Election.


The city council voted to re-elect Dr. Ayanna Shivers to serve a second term as Mayor.

Vicki Briggs was elected by the council to serve in the role of Mayor Pro-Tem.

This is the first time in the City of Mexico’s history that women have been elected to each role simultaneously.

The newest member of the Mexico City Council Steve Haag was also sworn in.


Outgoing member Steve Nichols was honored with several comments of praise for his 15 years of service on the Mexico City Council.

Mr. Nichols was elected to 5 terms with his first term in April of 2005.

He served under 4 City Managers and 2 City Clerks.


The certification of the local use tax that voters overwhelmingly approved was also certified by the council.
