A Mexico man is dead after an incident at a Mexico motel the morning of Thursday, August 24, 2023.
According to a press release from Mexico Public Safety they responded to the 4200 block of South Clark Street around 11:45am in reference to an unwanted subject.
Officers contacted a 73-year-old man who shot himself as officers began talking with him.
Officers immediately attempted first aid, and Audrain Ambulance District arrived within five minutes.
Lifesaving efforts continued, however the man was declared dead at the scene.
There were no other injuries from the incident.
Mexico Public Safety has not released the identity of the man as they are working on notifying next of kin.
