Mexico Public Safety Investigating Shooting Death Of Mexico Man

A Mexico man is facing second degree murder charges after a man was shot and killed at a Mexico residence during the evening hours of Sunday, May 19, 2024.

Mexico Public Safety Department responded to the 700 block of East Promenade around 6:17 on Sunday night in reference to someone being shot.

According to the news release from Mexico Public Safety, responding officers found that several people in the home were involved in an altercation, when 30-year-old Stephen L. Welch, shot and killed his brother 36-year-old Christopher S. Welch.

Welch was detained and was eventually taken to the Audrain County Sheriff’s Office pending formal charges from the Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney.

The investigation is ongoing.
