Construction on the first project within MoDOT’s Statewide Improve I-70 Program is underway along eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 between Callaway County Route J/Millersburg mile marker 137, and Callaway County Route M/ Hatton mile marker 144.
Motorists and Mizzou fans headed westbound on I-70 towards Columbia on Thursday, Aug 29, are reminded that barrier walls, narrower lanes, reduced speeds, and extra Mizzou game day traffic could cause delays between Callaway County Routes J and M. Two lanes of traffic on westbound I-70 in this area will be open on Thursday, Aug. 29, until approximately 7 p.m., then the contractor will close one westbound lane.
Both lanes of eastbound I-70 in this area will remain open.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, leave early, and allow for extra time throughout the work zone.
All work is weather permitting.
This work is part of the first project within MoDOT’s Statewide Improve I-70 Program, Improve I-70: Columbia to Kingdom City, which will add a third lane of travel in each direction to the 20-mile stretch of I-70 between U.S. Route 63 (Columbia) and Route 54 (Kingdom City).
This $405 million fixed-cost contract includes new pavement on all three lanes of I-70 and will also make interchange improvements to the I-70 interchanges at Route 63 and Route 54.
Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2027.
