Missouri State Highway Patrol Releases Name Of Suspect Involved In Callaway County Shooting

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released the identity of the suspect involved in a shooting that injured two Callaway County Sheriff’s deputies during the early morning hours of Monday, October 14, 2024.

According to a news release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 37-year-old Jonathan Beason, of Medina, Texas, died after exchanging gunfire with the two deputies.’

As of this (Monday) afternoon, one deputy is out of surgery and the other is scheduled for surgery.

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said both deputies will need extensive time to recover.

The incident closed westbound lanes of I-70 for several hours on Monday morning, between Kingdom City and Columbia.

According to the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy pulled over the vehicle Beason was driving just after 3:30 Monday morning on I-70 between Kingdom City and Columbia.

The deputy found out Beason had multiple felony warrants from out of state.

A second deputy arrived to help out and while attempting to detain Beason, the sheriff’s office said they reported Beason was resisting arrest.

A short time later, they reported shots, with both deputies being hit by gunfire.

Beason died at the scene, according to the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control has taken over the investigation.
