Casino Employee Pleads Not Guilty in $1.2M Boonville Heist

A Boonville casino employee accused of helping carry out a million-dollar armed robbery faced a judge Tuesday.

Twenty-one-year-old Benjamin Charles appeared by video for his arraignment, pleading not guilty to first-degree robbery and other charges.

Investigators say Charles and 20-year-old Hollis Vanleer allegedly stole more than $1.2 million from the Isle of Capri Casino last Wednesday, using guns during the heist.

A casino patron tried to stop them, sparking a fight before the suspects escaped.

Charles was arrested and is being held on a $1.3 million bond, while Vanleer remains on the run.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and federal agents are helping track him down, calling it one of the largest robberies they’ve seen.
