A Columbia man originally charged with murder was sentenced yesterday after taking a plea deal.
36-year-old Correy Greene pleaded guilty to illegal transfer of a gun and felony gun possession in the 2020 shooting death of Marqukis Hayes in Columbia.
As a result of his plea deal, a second degree murder and armed criminal action charge were dropped.
Greene was sentenced for seven years for illegal transfer of a gun and ten years for felony gun possession.
Greene is the second person who has been sentenced in this incident, as Angelica Benitez, who was the recipient of the gun that Greene gave to her, was the one who reportedly shot Hayes dead and received 28 years prison time as a result.
