Jefferson City Restaurant Owner Faces Federal Charges in Immigration Investigation

A Jefferson City restaurant owner is facing federal criminal charges following a Department of Homeland Security investigation into his business, Dragon Kitchen.

A criminal complaint alleges that Danny Cheng unlawfully concealed undocumented immigrants who worked at the restaurant and housed several employees in a residence he controlled, transporting them between the home and workplace.

Investigators say interviews with employees indicated many were living in the U.S. without authorization, and that some were transported across multiple states.

Cheng is scheduled for an initial court appearance Thursday.

He previously faced a 2024 federal wage lawsuit that resulted in a repayment plan for unpaid wages extending into 2027.
