Columbia Man Arrested for Threatening Victim After Traffic Accident

A Columbia man was arrested on Monday for threats that he made to someone else following a traffic collision.

Court documents report the victim of the threats saying that 35-year-old Michael Mattingly collided with their vehicle, but drove off and that as a result, the victim followed Mattingly to Walmart to confront him.

While the two men were at Walmart, Mattingly reportedly pulled out a knife during the confrontation in a threatening manner.

The victim also reported that the two men both rent from the same apartment complex, and that Mattingly arrived at the victim’s apartment with a handgun, saying that the gun was for him.

When police questioned Mattingly, he said that he was the only one who ever drove his car, but that he did not get into the crash earlier that day. However, he did say that he pulled out a knife during the confrontation at Walmart, but he reported it was in self defense.

Mattingly is charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and is being held in the Boone County Jail without bond.
