The Kansas City Royals defeated the New York Mets 16-12 in a wild, high-scoring rollercoaster of a series opener at Citi Field.
The Mets built a 9-4 lead early, highlighted by Carson Benge’s three-run “Little League home run” after three Royals throwing errors on one play and Juan Soto’s 20th homer.
But Kansas City stormed back with 12 unanswered runs, including a five-run fifth and a seven-run seventh,
Tyler Tolbert starred for the Royals with five hits and a record-tying streak of 12 consecutive plate appearances with a hit, while Lane Thomas drove in four runs.
For the Mets, rookie A.J. Ewing went 4-for-4 with a homer, and Bo Bichette collected his 1,000th career hit.
The loss marked the first time in Mets history they scored at least 11 runs at home and still lost.

the St. Louis Cardinals were swept The Milwaukee Brewers in a split doubleheader, falling in Game 1 by a score of 4-3 and Game 2 with a 10-2 loss.
Jacob Misiorowski struck out 11 over seven innings in the opener, while Christian Yelich delivered the go-ahead RBI.
In Game 2, Robert Gasser threw a career-best 7⅔ innings, and Milwaukee broke the game open with a seven-run seventh inning.
The sweep extended the Brewers’ winning streak to four games and their run of seven straight wins over the Cardinals.
