Boone County firefighters came to the rescue of a stranded fawn Saturday afternoon near southwest Columbia.
Crews responded to Arrowhead Lake after fishermen spotted the young deer struggling to stay afloat.
Firefighters swam out to the exhausted fawn, and Lieutenant Mitchell Workman safely brought it back to shore, where it was reunited with its waiting mother.
The Boone County Fire Protection District says the rescue was a success, and the fawn appeared unharmed as it headed back into the woods with its mom.
