Vacant Business Fire Under Investigation
A fire in a vacant business next to the Gerbes grocery store on West Truman Boulevard prompted a brief evacuation Thursday afternoon.
The Jefferson City Fire Department says crews responded after a store employee reported smelling smoke.
Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the vacant space, formerly occupied by Happy Garden, and had the fire under control within about 10 minutes.
No injuries were reported, and Gerbes has since reopened.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
