A woman who was found guilty of murder was sentenced to 32 years in prison in Callaway County Court today.
Heather Smith was found guilty by jury in April 2026 in the death of 37-year-old Kara Dills.
Court documents say Smith shot dills after their children got into an altercation while riding bikes at their apartment complex in April 2025, and Smith ended up shooting Dills in the stomach after multiple confrontations, killing Dills.
Smith was sentenced to 25 years in prison for a second degree murder charge, nine years each for three unlawful use of a weapon charges, and seven years for an armed criminal action charge that is to be served after the murder charge for a total of 32 years.
