Columbia Man Arrested for Shots Fired Incident, Fentanyl Also Found
A Columbia man was arrested for a shots fired incident in Boone County on the I-70 off-ram at HIghway 63.
The incident reportedly happened on August 2, when several people called 911 to report that shots had been fired.
When officers got to the scene, they found a person with a gunshot wound to their mouth, who was taken to the hospital.
Officers found an unoccupied car in the connection, stuck on a median, with a bullet hole in the door of the car and blood on the driver’s side door.
Inside the car, crime scene investigators found a small bag that held 9 grams of fentanyl.
After checking Flock cameras, investigators connected a Hyundai Elantra in connection with the shooting, and arrested 52-year-old Mechoal Lewis of Columbia.
Prosecutors charged Lewis with First Degree Assault causing Serious Physical Injury, Unlawful Use of Weapon by Shooting from a Moving Vehicle, three counts of Armed Criminal Action, and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
He was being held in the Boone County Jail without bond.
