Jefferson City Tax Increase on November Ballot

Jefferson City voters will decide in November whether to increase the city’s public safety sales tax.

The City Council voted Monday to put a quarter-cent increase on the November third ballot.

If approved, the tax would rise from 25 to 50 cents per 100 dollars spent, increasing the overall sales tax rate to 8.1 percent.

The measure is expected to generate about 3.6 million dollars annually, with funding potentially supporting police, fire, equipment, facilities and 911 operations.

The increase would take effect April first, 2027, if approved by voters.
