Columbia Animal Hospital bought by City/County
The Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services Department has announced plans to buy the Columbia Animal Hospital building for $995,000. The purchase split will not be evenly with the city of Columbia responsible for $595,000, and Boone County paying $400,000.
The Columbia Animal Hospital, located at 1300 Boone Industrial Drive. closed its doors on March 20, and Health Department and Columbia/Boone County Animal Control officials toured the property at that time
in June city officials didn’t feel the need for its own animal shelter due to there close relationship with the Central Missouri Humane Society. However, that belief, forged by current capacity for animal control, has changed in just a few months.
Few animals will actually be housed at the facility as it will become a focus of office and garage space for Animal Control officers.
If approved by the Columbia City Council, the $595,000 for the facility will be coming from Columbia’s general fund from fiscal year 2026.
