The count is done to survey the extent and characteristics of people who are homeless or on the verge of becoming homeless.

Last years count revealed more than 300 homeless individuals in the 12 counties NECAC covers, including Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, Randolph and Shelby counties.

The study also showed a majority of the homeless are single, white women between the ages of 25 and 34.
