Attorneys for a death row inmate have asked the Supreme Court to halt the execution for 37 year old Mark Christeson, that is scheduled for this evening.
He was convicted of the 1998 murders of Susan Brouk and her 12 year old daughter and 9 year old son Vichy.
In the appeal, his attorneys cite concerns about the competency of his original trial lawyers. They say the attorneys missed a 2005 deadline to file a federal appeal.
If the court does not step in, this will be Missouri’s first execution since May.
