Boone County Treasurer Taking Responsibility for Payment to Fraudulent Account

The Boone County Treasurer is taking responsibility for money given to a fraudulent account.

Tom Darrough says that they are changing and enhancing policies after the Boone County Government sent 46,232 to what was thought to be an account belonging to a local construction company, but later found out it was fraudulent.

The money was sent on October of last year, around a week later Boone County Officials became aware it was a fraudulent account.

The funds lost were covered the county’s emergency fund, however the insurance policy does not cover it.

The government is hopeful the funds will be retrieved when the thief is apprehended.
