Missouri Governor Mike Parson will be presenting a Vandalia Police Officer with a Medal of Valor on Tuesday for saving the life of a suicidal man on June 19, 2017.
Corporal Logan S. Benjamin responded to a call for a suicidal subject who had sent messages and pictures to his ex-girlfriend indicating an immediate threat of self harm.
Upon arrival at the residence, Benjamin heard a loud “thud” and gasping from inside the residence. He made entry into the home and found the man hanging from a support beam with a belt around his neck. He lifted the man to release the tension on his neck. The man became combative striking Benjamin several times, however, he was able to use a knife to cut the belt.
The award will be presented during a ceremony that will be held at the Missouri State Highway Patrol Law Enforcement Training Academy Gymnasium in Jefferson City.
