The Columbia Police Department has received and is investigating multiple unsubstantiated reports of email bomb threats in the Columbia area.
State and national law enforcement are also reporting threats of the same nature across the country.
The reported email threats request that a specific amount of money be sent to a Bitcoin account, and if that amount is not deposited the email says an explosive will be detonated.
Columbia Police say there is nothing known to suggest any validity to these threats.
CPD encourages the public to remain vigilant. Any business, organization or individual who receives a potential threat should report it to law enforcement immediately.
