Cardinals starter Dakota Hudson struggled to begin the game allowing a three run homer run as part of a 28 pitch first inning.
He would settle in after that pitching scoreless ball over the next 5 and 1/3 innings.
Paul Goldschmidt added a two run home run and Jose Martinez hit a solo shot in the win.
The Kansas City Royals with a 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves.
The Royals prevailed on the road thanks to a pinch hit go-ahead home run by Lucas Duda in the 8th inning.
Prior to last (Tuesday) night the Royals had won just one of its seven games when tied entering the 7th inning.
The St. Louis Cardinals are giving third baseman Matt Carpenter a rehab assignment and are eyeing his return to the lineup for this Friday.
Carpenter was in Triple-A Memphis yesterday (Tuesday) starting a three game rehab stint.
He ended up going 0-2 with a run and a walk last (Tuesday) night.
Carenter was placed on the 10 day injured list on July 16th with a right foot contusion.
