Mexico Board Of Education

The Mexico Bosrd of Education met Tuesday and heard from the teachers and staff at McMillan Early Learning Center about concerns regarding the scheduling of classes.

A teacher at the school spoke to the board about changes in the class times.

According to the teacher, parents were given a time of 7:45 to 10:45 for the morning class and 11:30 to 2:30 for the afternoon class last spring. A week before school started, the schedule was changed that added 15 minutes to each class.

As of Tuesday, the time changed again to 7:20 to 10:55 and 11:25 to 3:02. These times include pick-up and drop-off.

The change allows very little time between classes for teachers and paid staff to to plan and regroup for the afternoon classes.

The changes were made in part to help with congestion during drop-off and pick-up times and so the district can claim revenue on attendance of the students which equals $150 to $200 thousand.

Additionally, the board has elected to go with ATG for the sports fields projects.

The company presented at a recent board work session.

The district will be adding turf on the football field, relocating the soccer field and putting turf on the baseball infield.

The expected cost of the projects is approximately $2.2 million.
