The St. Louis Cardinals signing a veteran yesterday (Wednesday) that is expected to help with left-handed-hitting help off the bench.

The Cardinals and veteran infielder Brad Smith announced a one year deal worth an estimated 2 million dollars.

To make room for the 30-year old Miller on the 40-man roster, St. Louis placed right-handed reliever Jordan Hicks, who is recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery, on the 60 day disabled list, beginning immediately.

Miller has spent 6 plus season in the majors with Seattle, Tampa Bay, Milwaukee, Cleveland, and most recently with the Philadelphia Phillies.

More good news for the XFL and the St. Louis Battlehawks following their opening game in the newly formed league this past Sunday.

The Sports Business Journal reports the Battlehawks and Dallas Renegades game drew 2 million four hundred ninety five thousand viewers on Sunday and had a 7.4 rating in St. Louis.

The Battlehawks the only road team to win in the first weekend of the XFL.

St. Louis back in Texas this Sunday to take on the Houston Roughnecks.
